7:49 Oof, Lol!!!
15:30 Always the horny when them two, Lol!!!

Have to give it to Raiko, he a good strategist. He knew it would be a matter of time they figured out his communication to his forces. It was just 50/50 where Oshtor was gonna show up.

Really curious on how this 2nd fight gonna go down between Mikazuchi and Oshtor.

Good episode.

Uruuru and Saraana are seriously underrated. ♥

But with so many amazing ladies in one series, it's hard not to undervalue a few of them. -__-; "So which of the 347 women in the Utawarerumono franchise is best girl?" Yes.

BlackReaper23 • 1 year ago

how convinient that those twins could spot the voices just now instead of the beginning of the battle...

You know shit's about to go down when Mikazuchi appears, which means we're about to have a kaiju battle next week, can't wait!

Who goes to war without siege weapons or artillery? That is such a rooky mistake.

ThanoosUdom • 1 year ago

There were lot of famous battle in our history that were fought with only men and mounts.... Battle of Gaugamela, Battle of Canae, Battle of Hastings, Battle of Agincourt, Battle of Jingxing, Battle of Anegawa... Just o name a few.

Another thing, A Real War is not like a RTS you know... This is a Battlefield not a Siege, You and your enemy (most of the time) didn't start deploying your army across each other at the destination spot at the same time. No, It's a race...
Whether invader or defender, Those who arrive at the battlefield first (usually) get to take the first initiative (for example... setting troop on prefer terrain or taking the advantage position... or in this episode's case setting up the communication towers) which could end up turn into the factor that determine the outcome of the fight. So unless you either certain that you're going to have that in tow (or have another way to Take, Steal or Counter it), It's not a good thing to miss that initiative because your army got slowdown by having to haul siege weapons or artilleries or their building materials along.

You forgot the part where this anime is based on a strategy game where magic and god powers also fight on the battlefield . Historical accuracy wouldn't matter. And as Napoleon showed, artillery does have a place on the battlefield. In fact that was the reason Napoleon was able to win so many battles all because of artillery.

ThanoosUdom • 1 year ago

First of all, Historical accuracy do matter... Even with the fantasy element added into it, The more they realistically cooperating with human behavior the more immersive the story will be.
I know about the games but I never got a chance to play it so I don't really know how the series' magic mechanic works. But as a strategy games fan, I'm pretty sure that they can't use magic willy-nilly like there was no cause and consequence... Right? So... "The world has magics and supernatural powers, It can be done" is really not a good argument.
If you do familiar the series then tell me... Is there any scenario in the game where they use magic as a "Siege Weapons" or "Artilleries" in a battle? And I mean not as something like one shot "Bomb" or "Devastation" or one time "Gate Opener" or "Wall breacher" but a repeat usage as siege weapon or artilleries suppose to be use. If there is, please tell me how it was utilized... If what you describe is sounds, logical and can be done according to the lore then... I might change my stance.

Second, Napoleon is a bad example... From the look of it, This series is equivalent to the Late Kamakura to the Early Muromachi period (basically Japan Middle Age) At Best. Napoleon was in the Late Modern Period where there was the means to manufacture and utilize the artillery for the purpose.
What you said is like saying that "Napoleon use his cannon to win against his foe, Why can't Philip VI do the same?". Um... Maybe because his catapult is not as effective, his trebuchet is to big to be freely moving around and his cannon at the time is a just a tube on a stand? (look up Battle of Crecy Cannon)

the Finance Guy • 1 year ago

I've never played the game but based on what I've seen the game plays like a turn based tactical RPG. Character that can cast magic can do it on the battlefield, which has been seen in the anime with Saraana & Uruuru. Nekone seem to have some sort of flame thrower/hand cannon type of weapon. Sort of plays like X-Com or Divinity: Original Sin where each character gets to move and attack. If the anime is going to be following the story of the game then we should see a kaiju battle in the next episode.

Or they can just have Kuon or Anju just release their god powers and flatten everyone

ThanoosUdom • 1 year ago

Kuon's power is still hidden to Haku's side, So unless she want to show off and tell every one that she is the princess of Tuskur then that's a no...

And for Anju, Her existence is what justified their side's cause for war. Meaning, Her safety is their priority. Even with godly power, She still can be killed. So unless there is really no other option, Having her risking her life on the front line is also a no...

the Finance Guy • 1 year ago

Leaders lead from the front. We have numerous instances where kings and emperors fought on the battlefield.

ThanoosUdom • 1 year ago

And We also have numerous instances where the death of the kings or emperors on the battlefield not only caused them the battle (some case even at when they were on the brink of winning) but put an end to the war.
So, The question is... Was that "risk" really that necessary in this case? For me, That is a No...

the Finance Guy • 1 year ago

The positive out way the negative with the princess fighting alongside the troops.
1. Having the princess fight in the battlefield increase moral of the troops
2. Her power will dramatically end the battle sooner
3. The enemy troop will see that the real princess is on the other side which will cause those that believe they are fighting for the princess know they are fighting on the wrong side. This will lower moral of the enemy and cause many enemy troops to defect or stop fighting.

ThanoosUdom • 1 year ago

You shouldn't say one is definitively better than another without also provide the comparison... So, Here are the negative countering points...

1. The princess can be killed which if happen would demoralized the troops and could end up causing them war. Since their many ally were mobilized in princess' name, With her gone, Some of them might not be willing to continue the fight or use that as a reason or an excuse to not do so.

2. If the commander is competence, Things are not going to out right resulted that way. They are many battle strategy that could be use against that... for example...
- Holding down the enemy powerful unit with "Sacrificial Pawn" while dealing with the rest of their army.
- Using "Hits and Runs" to lure or isolate that unit, Or slowly chip away its strength and made it fall back.
- Or as mentioned, The princess is the high (some would say the highest) value target in this conflict. They could just hit her with everything they got. Even that might cause them this battle... If they're success, It could turn around the war and give them the win in the end.

3. Sure, That's going to sow the seed of doubt in the soldiers mind... But then... As a regular soldier, You don't really get a chance to meet the princess. Some might not even ever seen her. You only know her by hearing the talks of her. So... What stop their commanders to simply dismiss it as Lies? Or better... motivate the troop with something like "That savage monster is the fake who pretend to be our dignified princess! Preposterous! We must take her out!"
Unless they have something or someway that could undisputedly prove that Anju is without a doubt the true princess of Yamato to all people right there, The losing moral of some enemy troops is the only guarantee effect of having the princess taking the field.

Now let's do the cross comparisons...
Positive - Having a powerful unit on the field which could cause damage and demoralizing the enemy with both its prowess and presence.
Negative - Giving the enemy a target which if they were able to successfully hit it, Could turn the tide of the war.
Now, This is up to any individual to decided... But for me... Using a powerful bomb that has a chance of take out my enemy but also have a chance of blowing up at my face... is not really a choice I would make if there were other options.

the Finance Guy • 1 year ago

In the game, Anju is a useable character and does fight in the frontline of battle without much problems. She was in the frontline when they took the fort of Rumoy pass. Kuon is the Mikoto of Tuskur and they have no problem with their princess fighting in the frontline. One of the identifying quality of Anju is her godly powers and her guardian, Munechika, will vouch for her. Plus a lot of the strategies you listed wouldn't work because Raiko is telepathically communicating with his soldiers and giving commands instantaneously. Raiko is fighting this battle exactly like a RTS. Regardless, if the anime follows the game, then this argument is a moot point when Haku and Mikazuchi fights in the next episode.

ThanoosUdom • 1 year ago

Wait... before the last part... Why my mentioned strategies won't work because Raiko can command his soldiers telepathically? That's actually going to help him executing those mentioned strategies against the so called powerful unit like Anju with even to greater effect. I think you confusing something here...

Anyway... You keep bringing up that Anju and Kuon can fight which I Am Not Disagreeing with that. I'm saying that doesn't happen not because they can't be use. What I'm keep pointing out is according to the "Story", There's a reason and a risk that prevent them from being use to fight in field.
For Kuon... Those on Haku's side (beside her lady friend Fumirul) still don't know that she is the powerful princess of Tuskur... So story-wise, They're not using her.
For Anju... Again... If she dies, The war might be lost... That's not the risk they want to take, That why she was also not being used.
Your "They are usable characters that can fight in the front line in game" doesn't counter any of those upper mentioned points.
As I said, I don't really know what happen in the game. But tell me this... In the game... If Anju or Kuon dies, (And I mean the HP hit 0 out of the game kind... Not the knock out sent to the bench/wait for the next round kind) would that resulted in game over? Or... Is there any scenario or mission where the winning condition is keep them alive/not to let them die? If that's the case then my argument stand...

On the identity thing... We know that fact about Anju because we are the viewers that got to see what going on from the start... But what about the other? Having Godly Powers equal being the princess? How can a normal solider be sure that Auju really do possess Godly Powers and is not just a another powerful individual? Is there any indicator like giant wings of light or massive divine aura that can be see by all people in the vicinity? If not then the enemy general can just dismiss that and say she just strong. So that's just only enough to sowing the seed of doubt for some of the enemy soldiers but not enough to demoralize them to the point that they willingly put down their weapon or switch side.
Having Munechika confirmation? Munechika was taken prisoner in Tuskur and was just released back to Anju. What's stopping the enemy general from telling the soldiers "She's a traitor who sell herself to Tuskur in exchange for her life and was sent here to spread the lies in order to weaken our cause. She can't be trust" or something in along that line? Again... Enough to cause some doubt, Not enough to cause the rout.

Historically accurate people, that's who. Siege weapons are just that, siege weapons, and artillery is a ways off for their technology level. Well, sort of.
The better question would be 'who leaves a fortified position to fight a field battle without a clear advantage,' but I suppose you could shrug it off as Raiko not wanting a prolonged siege. He is, after all, not a complete monster, and wouldn't want to starve the people of the capital if he can avoid it.

the Finance Guy • 1 year ago

You mean historically accurate where people can cast magic, use god powers and fight beside monsters?

TriedAndFalse • 1 year ago

You asked "Who goes to war without siege weapons or artillery?". The answer is "just about every smart person in history before cannons were invented". Now, just to be fair, some did bring trebuchets and assemble them on site, but they were used against fortified walls, not troop formations. The reasons for this are many: assembly time, accuracy and reload times being the most prevalent.
Context clues suggest your comment wasn't about what these guys were going to do when they got to the capital, but more in line with 'where are all the catapults and stuff'. Well, just because the people in this world have superhuman strength and thaumaturgy doesn't mean they can make a more accurate and faster reloading catapult or trebuchet. If anything, stronger and faster soldiers would make what is already a bad battlefield weapon even worse, as the situation will change more rapidly.

the Finance Guy • 1 year ago

You do know that field artillery was commonly used by the 14 century. Rockets were used during the 11 century. Even before that fire lances were used by 10 century. Nekone has what appears to be a fire lances when you used her on the battlefield in the game. The Romans had something call the carroballista that were used on the battlefield and is mobile. They even had a repeating ballista call the polybolos that can shoot 11 bolts a minute. So I guess all those that were used by the Romans and Chinese historically on the battlefield were stupid people based on your comment.

I wonder how they will adapt the scheme behind the scheme :P It was even confusing in the game i've had to redo the two-group mission two times to properly understand what was going on.

Quick communication is a great asset in warfare.

Reminds me of the anime Drifters, where they use the magical communication stones in war.
